6metre- photo by Daniel ForsterNewport County is a small place; yet the amount of beauty surrounding us is infinite, and we are blessed to have these angels mentioned above to remind us, through their photography, that such beauty can be enjoyed every day. This year, the International Yacht Restoration School will honor these photographers for their annual benefit on July 9. These men, most of whom have sailed professionally all over the world, have devoted a great part of their lives to live for experiencing the exceptional beauty one experiences at sea, and to capture it on film. Sailing, be it regattas in Newport, St Barths, Sardinia;or landscape, capturing life as we do not know it in the outermost reaches of the earth.
These intrepid rangers of beauty bring us exhilaration of sailboat racing, taking risks to get the shot. We are very fortunate to have them in our small community. Regardless of your sailing experience, one look at these photos and you will have experienced the exhilaration of being at the race.
The International Yacht Restoration School, known as IYRS, is another haven of beauty. IYRS specializes in perpetuating expertise in the restoration and appreciation of of classic yachts. Part of their mission is "To teach the skills, history, art, and science of building, restoring, and maintaining wooden and composite-construction boats and their onboard systems;
To preserve the knowledge, heritage, craftsmanship and aesthetic genius inherent in these boats;" IRYS is another gem Newport has to offer. See http://www.iyrs.org/
